Description

JAJA-MAR has returned from the Bahamas but was originally delivered to Hong Kong and brought west through the Mediterranean and across the Atlantic.  With absolutely everything onboard for extended or full-time cruising JAJA-MAR is ready-to-go. As published in the original brochure, the Whaleback is “an intrepid 48’ transocean trawler with the luxuriant livability few 60 footers enjoy, still of a size and agility that is easily handled by a couple.” If that describes your requirements you owe it to yourself to place JAJA-MAR at the top of your list.

Full Specifications

Construction

Cored hull with closed cell P.V.C. Airex sandwich core used in the hull. End grained balsa-cored superstructure, pilothouse and boat deck. Core mat is also used to reduce print-through. Vinylester resin used in first two laminates below the waterline. Marine plywood bulkheads. Mahogany stringers and frames.

Saloon

The saloon is entered through double doors off the fully covered aft deck. To starboard is an L-shaped settee and a large opening window with teak valance and wooden mini blinds for ventilation. To port is a larger L-shaped settee with built-in end tables and a hydraulic hi/low table that seats six.  A large opening window allows for a cross breeze. For entertainment there is a Samsung 48" LCD TV, satelite receiver and a Bose stereo system, DVD player and Apple TV.

Galley

The open concept galley is on the starboard side and is separated from the the saloon/dining area by a pass through counter.   The galley is a convenient U-shape, with a large window for natural light.  There is an abundance of storage with multiple lockers and drawers. The galley was completely recently refitted with beautiful quartz work tops with bar seating and a custom glass backsplash.  The galley's major features include:

  • Force 10 3 burner propane stove with oven
  • Stainless steel Vitrifigo refrigerator/freezer (new 2017)
  • Custom slide-out shelves
  • Emerson microwave oven
  • Custom trash container
  • Large double stainless steel sink

Master Stateroom

The master stateroom of the Whaleback is self contained with full bedroom and en-suite head.  It is located forward and features an island queen berth.  There is storage under the mattress as well as at the foot of the bed.  Two full length lit double lockers with built in shelves and port windows in each locker provide ample hanging storage.  There are two vanity units with multipe drawers.  One vanity features a lit full size mirror with a concealed pull-up make-up compartment.  Four opening ports and two larger overhead hatches as well as two smaller hatches provide an abundant amount of light and ventilation.  For entertainment there is a Samsung 32" LCD TV linked with its own satellite TV receiver.

Master Ensuite Head

The ensuite head features an overhead mirrored medicine cabinet and extra vanity storage.  It was recently updated with a neutral quartz countertop with stainless steel sink, Dometic toilet, and large stall shower.  A floor to ceiling locker provides ample storage for linens.    An opening port allows light and ventilation.

Guest Staterooms

There are two guest staterooms.  The first is to port and includes two single berths, two reading wall sconces, hanging locker and multiple storage drawers under the berths. There is a large opening window with mini blinds and an opening port with curtain.

The second guest stateroom is to starboard and features a settee that converts to a single berth and an overhead Pullman berth with two overhead reading sconces. There is also an office area with desk, wrap around shelving, hanging locker and opening port.

Guest Head

The guest head is located aft of the starboard guest stateroom. It has a large stall shower mirrored medicine cabinet, Dometic head, neutral quartz countertop, stainless steel sink and an opening port. Plenty of locker space is under the vanity and in the additional locker overhead.  For laundry aboard, a separate cabinet outside the head houses an LG washer/dryer combo unit which was new in 2017.

The pilothouse on the Whaleback is not just a helm but rather a whole other living area both under way and when on the hook ar at the dock. It is accessed from either the circular stairs just forward of the port guest stateroom or from the aft deck. There is true 360-degree visibility from the captain's chair.  The helm has a large chart reading area with multiple chart drawers and locker space below.  The electronics display was updated with a new display cabinet in 2018  giving it a streamlined look.  Access to the Portuguese bridge via port and starboard doors.  There is a larger L-shaped convertible setee with dining table that sits eight during the day and converts to a double berth by night.  Abundant storage exists under the setee.  There is a complete wet bar with U-line icemaker, sink and insulated ice box for ice/drinks.
