Things are abuzz at Asia Harbor Yacht Builders in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, the exclusive builder of each and every Kadey-Krogen yacht. While many yards in Taiwan lie dormant and others operate at drastically reduced production, Asia Harbor is expanding its workforce to accommodate our sales of the new Krogen 52' and Krogen 48' AE as well as the existing models in the Kadey-Krogen line.
No sooner was hull number one released from the mold last month (http://www.kadeykrogen.com/news/index.php?page=introduction&story=407 ) than the lamination crew began preparation of the mold for hull number two. Since hull number two is a twin engine model, they added the integral twin skegs to the mold before polishing it to perfection and then spraying the gelcoat. As you can see from the photos, they have completed the lamination and ground the interior smooth in preparation for the placement of the bulkheads and stringers.
Roughly two months ahead in the pipeline, construction of hull number one continues at a rapid pace. The bow thruster drive mechanism has been installed as have the stabilizer actuators. Fuel, water and waste tanks are being set into place and other equipment such as air conditioning units, hot water tank, and pumps are being dry fitted. Within a few weeks all the major equipment will be in place and the vacuum bagged salon and cabin soles will be set in place.
Meanwhile, finishing touches on the tooling for the superstructure as well as the boat deck/flybridge are nearing completion. The photo with the large relatively flat structure shows the mold for the integral boat deck, flybridge and pilothouse roof. If you look closely, you can pick out the part of the mold that is the L-shaped settee on the flybridge. Lamination of this structure will begin in earnest this week.
