What is Cruising?
Cruising. A word these days that seems to have so many different meanings, like the word "trawler". Yes, I know, it's confusing and the marketing firms for many boat builders like it that way. On the other hand, there are those of us that believe that what is important is that you take action and go boating. Where you go is not as important as the fact that you purchase a boat, use it and enjoy your time aboard.... MORE >>

The Year in Review
December 17, 2012 2012 was quite a year within the Kadey-Krogen family at both a personal and professional level. At the personal level I felt like a proud papa at Shannon's wedding. In many of her Krogen musings she has referred to me as her "work dad" and I must admit that I did shed a tear as she and Dave shared their wedding vows. I can only imagine what I will be like should my "real" daughter decide to head down the aisle at some point. On... MORE >>

More Than Semantics
Are we in the boat building business or are we a business that builds boats? Is there a difference? Yes, there definitely is a difference. Kadey-Krogen Yachts is in the boat building business and our success is, at its purest level, gauged by the number of boats we build and the equal number of happy owners. Can we be so foolish as not to measure success based upon profit?... MORE >>

A Lot of Doing to Do
January 18, 2012 I'm becoming one of you - a Baby Boomer. Yes I know, you can't just become a Baby Boomer, we were born that way, but until one day late last fall, Baby Boomers were someone else. First Krogen 52' Arrives on East Coast
January 5, 2012 I can't think of a better way for someone to start the new year than with the arrival of their new Kadey-Krogen. That was the case for Mike and Dyan Warren as their new Krogen 52' arrived in Savannah, GA on New Year's Eve. Unfortunately for the Warrens, offloading of their new Kadey-Krogen, Suite Judy, would have to wait a few days as the port was closed for the holiday until January 2nd. Bright... MORE >>
Possibly the Most Capable Trawler in the World
That certainly is a bold statement. One you would expect to be followed with words like "Meet 'Bruiser', a 150' Expedition Yacht". Instead I'm talking about the Krogen 44', one of the smaller yachts we build. How can that be? One definition of capability is "the ability to achieve efficiently whatever one has to do; competent". Based upon that definition it is logical to assume that the most capable trawler in the world must be able to cross oceans.... MORE >>

Krogen 52' Makes International Debut
September 28, 2011 The new Krogen 52' made her international debut last week at the Boats Afloat Show in Seattle, Washington. Visitors to our exhibit needed only a few words to describe the Krogen 52'. Depending on the generation, those words were "spectacular", "amazing", "totally awesome" or just plain "wow!". There were also those caught speaking to a higher authority, as "oh my God" was heard over and over again. And why not?... MORE >>

What's Under the Covers?
June 4, 2011 Most boat builders are quick to show you visible features of their vessels, both inside and out - features such as their granite countertops or barbeque. Krogen 52' Progress Update #3 - December 8, 2010

The crew has bolted the two halves together but before lamination of the first hull can begin, they must cut in and create plugs for the port holes and bow thruster.... MORE >>

What Is Architectural Integrity and Why Is It Important?
When I was a kid going to my first prom, my buddies and I rented a "Stretch" limo for the evening. Especially back then, to make a Stretch you just cut a Cadillac in two and inserted a section in the middle and then welded them together. We were of course really impressed and told the driver what a really cool car it was and what a great job he had. His response was, "Well kid, that's because you don't have to drive it." Thirty Years - Where Did The Time Go?
Thirty years ago, a naval architect named Jim Krogen and a yacht broker named Art Kadey drew the first sketches of what would become the Krogen 42'. By today's standards it was very, very simple.
