Compass Rose

See those smiles? Pam and John Loving are loving the cruising life! This Navy wife of 26 years tells us why her Kadey-Krogen is Sheworthy.

pam-loving-pictureWhen we started this journey 12 years ago, we had no idea what we were doing! My husband, John, and I knew we wanted to experience the cruising lifestyle to its fullest, but that didn’t make the decision to purchase Compass Rose, our Krogen 42′, easy. In fact, it was pretty scary as two very inexperienced boaters. Ultimately, we figured we had more money than time, and it was time to take the plunge. We got the hang of it and today, we’ve been full-time “live-aboards” since 2004.

One thing I remember realizing very early on was that I wanted to be an equal partner in this new adventure. I had a lot to learn. And that I did, with the help of a great network of people–Kadey-Krogen Yachts being one of many information sources. I would encourage more women to become fully engaged; it’s your boat, too. If you’re just going along for the ride, you are severely limiting your enjoyment of this fabulous lifestyle.

After spending 26 years as a Navy wife, I value time together; always being there for each other is important. We have certainly become closer as a result of cruising. I’d have to say the most rewarding thing about this lifestyle, is not the memorable sunrises and sunsets, beautiful anchorages, or the interesting friends you meet, it’s the subtleties of life onboard that all add up to the whole.

One of my biggest fears is waking up tomorrow and finding that it is all over!
