The Voyage of Krogen 39' Sofkin II: Travel posts on the way to Trinidad
With the sale of his company, David Webster and muse Janet Harding of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, segued from success in business at Software Kenetics to success in adventure aboard Sofkin II, a Krogen 39' commissioned out of Stuart, FL, in November 2002. Bounding into the trawler class from their prior style of weekend and holiday boating aboard a 30' Sea Ray in Georgian Bay and the North Channel of Lake Huron, the two immediately headed for the Bahamas and spent the winter there and the Turks and Caicos before returning Sofkin to storage in Stuart for the summer of 2003. The next year they repeated the journey, coming back to Stuart in time for the 2004 Krogen Spring Rendezvous after 110 days without tying up at a single marina.
This past winter was the time to taste the Caribbean, destination Trinidad. Here are excerpts from their e-mail observations posted along the way from January to May 2005. Next winter they plan to back track from Chagauramas to revisit favorite spots and see some they missed, before returning Sofkin to Trinidad and the next great passage.
