Kadey-Krogen Yachts will debut the much-anticipated Krogen 50’ Open model at the Progressive® Insurance Miami International Boat Show at Miami Marine Stadium & Basin on Virginia Key (February 15 – 19, 2018). The all-new model will be unveiled at the Kadey-Krogen Yachts in-water display (Pier 8, slips 822, 824, 826), alongside two legendary Krogen models, the Krogen 58’ EB and Krogen 48’ AE. All three models will be available for guided tours.
Kadey-Krogen Yachts enjoys a 40-year reputation of seaworthiness and innovation with its Raised Pilothouse and Expedition series of trawler yachts, that range from 44 to 58 feet. The Krogen 50’ Open is the newest addition to their luxury line of ocean-going vessels, and she is a model all her own. Light-filled and open, the Krogen 50’ Open’s continuous salon/galley/pilothouse main deck arrangement puts entertaining and ease at the center of long-range cruising. For increased privacy or traditional pilothouse passage-making, the Krogen 50’ Open is optimized with a remote-controlled, retractable wall to separate the helm area from the salon and galley. Access to both the flybridge and the lower accommodations deck are from the pilothouse, via household-style steps. From top-to-bottom, and inside-out, the design of the Krogen 50’ Open flows gracefully.
“All throughout the boat, there are subtle stylistic changes and surprises—tray lighting, square drawer pulls, more contemporary lines—that create an all-together new Kadey-Krogen experience,” said Larry Polster, vice president of Kadey-Krogen Yachts, and owner of hull number one of the Krogen 50’ Open series. “In the galley, the red knobs of the 30-inch Wolf® range may make a bold culinary statement, but they are not all for show. Because my wife Janet and I both love to cook, we designed a galley that is exceedingly functional. Fit, finish, and function were the three deciding factors of each design choice.”
With sunshine able to flood the large salon windows and aft sliding glass door, it’s always bright on the main deck. The salon is designed with beautiful and comfortable settee seating, a handcrafted cherry table with fold-out top and stainless-steel high/low pedestal base, and a TV that raises and lowers in front of the portside windows. Plus, there’s room for two additional, owner-supplied chairs.
The galley is happily situated between the salon (that seats six for dinner) and the pilothouse (with additional settee guest seating), so anyone preparing a snack or meal remains in good company. A Viking® or Wolf® range and Subzero® refrigerator/freezer (conveniently located adjacent to the galley counters) are among the model’s many standard upgraded features. Storage, including a motorized, pop-up appliance garage, and 16-linear feet of counter surface make smart use of the galley space.
The pilothouse on the Krogen 50’ Open, like every Kadey-Krogen yacht, was designed with long-range cruising and control in mind. When the retractable panel that separates the pilothouse from the salon and galley is down, there is 360-degree visibility, which is unique for a yacht of this size. Front and center of the helm station, is a customizable helm panel with room for large monitors and dedicated displays. Additionally, for easy docking, there are port and starboard wing stations located just outside the pilothouse doors.
With two lower accommodation layouts to choose from, the Krogen 50’ Open is available in either the standard midship master floorplan or an optional master-forward design. The midship master arrangement features a walk-around island queen berth with handcrafted, built-in nightstand cabinetry. Proper storage for clothing and personal items lines the perimeter of the room, and the private ensuite head, with its standard his-and-her sinks, expansive, deep counters, smart drawer storage, and large shower, defines this master retreat. The standard, VIP-forward stateroom is bright and welcoming as well, with an island queen berth and a private head and shower. Deep drawer storage is complimented by a hanging locker to port.
“We incorporated a dedicated office space outside the master stateroom into the design of our Krogen 50’ Open, so this is not a retirement boat for us – at least not anytime soon,” said Polster. “Increasingly, more and more professionals and business owners have the flexibility to work remotely, and I have already begun working aboard for a week at a time, and plan to spend the month of May in the Bahamas. Aboard a Kadey-Krogen, it can be done!”
Many engine rooms make the claim, but the Krogen 50’ Open truly has a stand-up engine room—front to back. Seven feet at the front, and six-and-a-half feet of vertical clearance at the back of the engine(s), makes this space walkable. This well-lit, well-ventilated, and well-labeled space houses Tier III John Deere® #6068AFM85, 230 bhp, as the standard power or two Tier III John Deere® 4045TFM85, 125 bhp, as an option, as well as the industry’s finest systems and equipment.
Lastly, conveniently accessed from the pilothouse, the flybridge opens to an airy, oversized seating and dining area with an outdoor kitchen and wet bar. Sleek lighting provides just the right amount of ambiance. The forward storage area accommodates supplies, fenders, and cushions, and there’s more storage below the settee seating. Not to be missed on the Open, the flybridge helm station sits directly above the pilothouse, offering excellent sight lines of the foredeck, bow, and beyond.
The Krogen 50’ Open remains loyal to Kadey-Krogen Yachts’ signature Pure Full Displacement™ hull form and is available for private tours at the Progressive® Insurance Miami International Boat Show at Miami Marine Stadium & Basin on Virginia Key.
