A Kadey-Krogen yacht is a superior liveaboard vessel in part because James S. Krogen, originator of the basic design concepts of today’s generation of trawler yachts, lived aboard his own boat and designed over 700 vessels. Of note: When Captain Robert Beebe began writing the original Voyaging Under Power, he came to James S. Krogen for assistance.

Open Spaces

A Kadey-Krogen yacht flows naturally from one area to the next, from the fully covered aft deck, to the saloon, up to the pilothouse or down to the sleeping accommodations. This basic design makes the yacht very comfortable and easy to get around in, yet gives every crew member his or her privacy—a key factor in long-term enjoyment. Lighting

LED lighting brightens the evening and illuminates closed spaces, and is robust, durable, and very energy efficient. All fixtures are conveniently placed, as are hatches and portlights to make optimum use of natural light.

Ergonomics

Reach out and you’ll find a handy grasp. There’s never a strain to reach a galley door or cabinet. A Kadey-Krogen yacht’s well-conceived ergonomic features are a product of the time that founder James S. Krogen and his successors spent living aboard. The company has spent 30 years listening to owners’ suggestions and fine-tuning the human engineering.

Galley

Whether you are preparing a fresh-caught Caribbean spiny lobster feast, Dungeness crabs or hors d’oeuvres for a shipboard gathering of family and friends, you’ll find that the galley in every Kadey-Krogen design is as comfortably functional as any you find on any comparably sized yacht. Sensible appliances are best quality and perfectly sized. Best of all, with the galley open to the saloon, the chef is always “in the mix” and not out of the conversation.

Windows

Ambient light abounds throughout, making our yachts bright and cheery. The tempered glass windows with powder coated aluminum frames are of superb quality. Every Kadey-Krogen design has numerous opening ports, windows and doors to ensure catching a fresh breeze while at anchor—at least 15 of them on the Krogen 39' and up to 28 on the Krogen 58'!

Storage

Owners who live aboard a Kadey-Krogen design are astonished with their ability to keep treasured possessions because of the storage capacity. Whether moving from another vessel or it’s their first time aboard, owners discover that they can find places for scuba gear, kayaks, bicycles and more—all within easy access.

Heads, Showers and Laundry Units

Head areas are bright and airy with separate shower stalls. Stacked laundry units are ingeniously placed to be out of the way yet convenient.

Staterooms

Staterooms are well lit and ventilated, with real hanging lockers, dressers and under berth drawers to accommodate a full wardrobe for whatever occasion may arise. The master berth features cavernous storage spaces below the island platform, and lifts on struts to allow easy access.

Pilothouse and Flybridge

The pilothouse offers a commanding view plus generous space for every imaginable navigation aid, control or instrument. Large chart drawers accommodate regular charts and/or full sized chartbooks, and the chart table has ample room to work with a full sized chart. The flybridge makes fair weather piloting an open-air pleasure.

Covered Aft Deck

The fully covered aft deck that owners affectionately refer to as their "back porch" acts as an open air expansion of the saloon, is comfortable in almost any weather, and provides yet another living area perfect for reading and entertaining.
